We had the great pleasure to visit some lodges in the Timbavati region, Mpumalanga last week.

Timbavati Nature Reserve shares a common unfenced border with the Kruger National Park allowing animals free range and ensuring guests to the area the opportunity to view the greatest diversity of wildlife that Africa has to offer.

View the big game from open vehicles, on foot or from the comfort of your room as you experience timeless Africa.

BabyB visited two lodges that were both great and stood out as a great opportunity for the range

First up was the Simbavati Lodge. Our reception was great especially because we were greeted by the elephants above from the dining deck.

Simbavati River Lodge is an intimate and friendly camp built on the banks of the Nhlaralumi River in the heart of the world famous Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. Shaded by age old Jackalberry and Leadwood trees, Simbavati is warm and welcoming, with a generous contemporary design and accommodation for guests in luxury tented rooms or thatched chalets.

Simbavati takes its name from the local Shangaan language, translated as “the place where the lions come down from the stars”. The focus of the lodge is on the excellent big-5 game viewing, breathtaking views, friendly and knowledgeable staff in an environment where guests are made to feel comfortable and relaxed from the moment they arrive.

Our second stop was at Motswari and again the beauty of our country is endless.

Open to the Kruger National Park and playing host to Africa's Big Five is Motswari Private Game Reserve. One of South Africa's jewels nestled within the Timbavati Nature Reserve, this family-owned and operated four-star luxury safari lodge prides itself on its warm atmosphere and luxurious African safari lodge accommodation.

The name Motswari means "to conserve and protect" in Tswana and the owners have held the name to be a promise to each of their future friends who arrive to share in the splendour of an African sunset at this traditional African safari lodge.

Both these lodges will have the BabyB ranges available in the next few weeks so please go and visit them and then browse the store!!!

A Special thanks to Celia van Wyk, her absolute willingness to help and introduce us to the wonderful opportunities for BabyB cannot not be adequately expressed - thanks Celia you are the best !!!!

Welcome to BabyB

It has been three years since we first started our dream of creating BabyB and now it’s here!!

BabyB grew from my desire to find baby clothes made in Africa from African material as it is so colourful and lively and secondly to follow in my mother’s footsteps, to empower women through education and skill development, to enable them to support themselves.

What is BabyB

BabyB is a baby and toddler clothing range catering from ages 3 months to 3 years. The garments are made from denim and African Cotton Wax Art material. Each garment is reversible and one of a kind.

The garments are made in workgroups in Zambia and South Africa. Our criteria for selecting a workgroup:

  • The workgroup must follow the guidelines of the Share your Knowledge project, whereby every lady trained to sew must train another.
  • Secondly every lady trained, should understand how to earn additional income with her newly acquired skills and thus improving the lives of her family.

The Workgroups

The workgroup in Zambia has been open since November 2009 and the second shipment of clothes is due mid April. We also engaged with a local South African workgroup wich has been running smoothly for 2 weeks now.

The Official Launch

We have chosen the Baby Expo to introduce ourselves to the market and are really excited to meet our customers here.

BabyB launch at the Baby Expo

We have just returned from striking at the Baby Expo. What an experience!!!

We would like to thank all of you who we met at the Expo – Those who bought something, those who enjoyed looking at the range, our fellow exhibitors and the organisers. Without your support we would not have been able to have such a wonderful experience.

For all of the e-mail inquiries’ regarding “how to purchase online” our web developer is hard at work and we hope to have an online store in place in the next week or two. We will definitely be in contact with you then.

Thank you for your interest

Bertha and Karel
